Summer Term 2022 Newsletter

What a busy Summer Term we have had! We welcomed Brighton and Hove Dance Academy students and their families into the Alta community, we held RAD ballet exams over 2 days in July and we staged a wonderful summer show in the final week of term at The Old Market Theatre in Hove. Well done to everyone for such a fantastic effort, not just this term but throughout the year!

The summer show was filmed and will be available to purchase very soon either as a DVD, USB or digital download. Full details will be emailed shortly.

Student Updates and Successes

Last term, we congratulated students who received offers for full time courses at Central School of Ballet (Izzy), Rambert School (Scout) and Tring Park School for the Performing Arts (Izzy, Bebel, Matilda), as well as those who were selected to attend prestigious spring and summer intensives at The Royal Ballet School, English National Ballet School, Yorkshire Ballet Seminars and Ballet Boost. This term we have more exciting news to report.

Zak was recently awarded Performer of the Year 2022 for the Child of Sussex Awards.

He also attends the CAT Programme at The Place in London.

Earlier this term Zak successfully auditioned for a place in the Senior Company 2022 for National Youth Ballet this summer. He will be performing in Birmingham in late August and at the Gala at Sadlers Wells on 4th September.

Lois has been offered a place on the Central School of Ballet Associates Programme.

She is also attending Ballet Boost Summer Intensive in London.

Matilda has also been offered a place on the Central School of Ballet Associates Programme starting in September.

Matilda took two RAD Ballet exams last term and achieved a distinction for her Intermediate Foundation and a high distinction for her Grade 5 RAD!

Marcus has been offered a place as a Royal Ballet School Mid Associate. He is seen here about to start his week on the Royal Ballet School Summer Intensive course.

Sophia has been offered a place as a Royal Ballet School Junior Associate starting in September.

Sophia is also a Ballet Boost Associate.

Other awards include a Dance Scholarship to Brighton College for Romily and Roedean for Luciana as well as Pebble Trust Awards for a number of students.

Isabella was awarded a place on the Central School of Ballet Summer Intensive. Luciana, Mya and Marla have also been awarded places on the Ballet Boost Summer Intensive.

Dance Photoshoot

Royal Academy of Dance Exams

Our RAD exams took place towards the end of term over 2 days. For some it was their first time taking RAD exams and for others it was it was their first experience of vocational level exams. Well done to you all!

Results From Last Term’s RAD Exams

Congratulations to all who took exams in the Spring Term both at the brand new RAD studios in London and in Brighton. Stunning results all with distinctions and high merits!

Our Grade 8 student, Lesza, was awarded the top mark of 10 for her character dance. A 10 is deemed as “exceptional” by the RAD.

Try a New Class Next Term!

Jazz Classes

Our Jazz classes on Wednesdays with Miss Sam are popular and great fun. Students learn different styles of dance movement from lyrical to musical theatre and commercial. Students will also learn routines from well known shows.

PBT Classes

Our PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique) classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays are proving to be very effective. PBT is a wonderful supplement to dance training. It not only develops greater strength but also a deeper understanding how to activate different muscle groups.

NEW Conditioning for Ballet

We are introducting a new Conditioing for Ballet class next term on Tuesdays, which is a supplementary fitness training programme specifically for ballet using current research on physical fitness and focussing on aspects such as Cardiorespiratory, Plyometrics, Balance & Stability (including turnout) and Flexibility.

Adult Ballet Classes

As well as after school and evening classes, we also run daytime ADULT CLASSES on a drop in or block booking basis. Please click here to find out more or contact us on info@altadance.co.uk. We may consider adding an evening adult class if there is sufficient demand.

We Say A Sad Goodbye to…

Miss Victoria

Although Miss Victoria is moving onto new ventures, we will hopefully see her from time to time as she comes in to cover classes! We were delighted to welcome all BHDA students into the Alta family this term and so pleased many were able to take part in the summer show.

Miss Nisa

Miss Nisa is moving on to take up a position as Deputy Principal at a dance school in Lewes. We thank her for all her hard work and wish her lots of success in her new role.

We Extend A Warm Welcome to…

Miss Siân

We are delighted to have Miss Siân on board from September. She comes to us from London where she has been a freelance teacher at dance schools in London and Surrey. She holds a BA in Ballet Education and has been awarded a distinction for the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance. As well as ballet, she has also trained to the highest level in modern, tap and jazz.

Autumn Term 2022

The website has now been updated with the Autumn term timetable (click here to view). Please note classes are subject to change depending on numbers. Invoices will be sent out shortly.

We provide a full uniform service, including our popular Alta jackets (please note these jackets have a 6-8 week lead time if not in stock in your size). You can use the ordering page on our website or email us.

We produced Alta notebooks and have a handful left which we are selling at a clearance rate of £2.95. Please let us know if you’d like one. We may produce more, featuring new designs. Would this be of interest? Please vote YES or NO.
